Area teams tip off volleyball season

TSnews Three area volleyball teams did not wait until after Labor Day to tip off their respective seasons, as the Eisenhower Tigers, Goddard Lions and Campus Colts all competed in the Eisenhower pool of the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League preseason tournament last Saturday in Goddard. The Tigers finished 3-2 on the day, good for third in their pool, while Goddard, the Colts and Dodge City all tied for fourth with a record of 1-4.

Cheney approves golf cart lease

TSnews CHENEY – The Cheney City Council approved a new lease for golf carts at Cherry Oaks Golf Course, which is a city-owned and city-operated facility. The city’s current 48-month golf cart lease for 50 golf carts is expiring in the next few months.

Cannons end Aviators’ season at NBC World Series

TSnews The Haysville Aviators summer baseball team saw its season end last Wednesday with a 6-3 loss to the Kansas Cannons in the opening round of bracket play at the National Baseball Congress World Series. The Cannons took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a wild pitch and an RBI groundball, then made it 3-0 on a Chase Diggins double in the bottom of the third.

Curve goes 1-2 at SummerBall Showdown

TSnews The Kansas Curve summer baseball team went 1-2 at last week’s SummerBall Showdown in Goddard, ending its season in the Showdown’s round of 24. The Curve split a pair of pool games at the Showdown, falling 6-1 to the CornBelt last Wednesday night before downing the Avengers 12-1 last Thursday evening.

TSnews The Kansas Curve summer baseball team won three of its final five regular-season games last week and will take a 22-13 record into the annual SummerBall Showdown. The Curve beat the Wichita Farmers 7-6 last Tuesday, but lost 3-1 to the Heat the next night at Wellington.

Aviators get ready for World Series

TSnews The Haysville Aviators summer baseball team concluded its regular-season slate by splitting a quartet of games last week and are now focused on the National Baseball Congress World Series. The Aviators lost 6-2 to the Derby Twins last Wednesday before downing the Twins 13-1 the next night.

Lake Afton moved to warning list

Lake Afton is now on the blue-green algae warning list put out by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP). That announcement came out last Friday.
