Body SALINA – The Andale-Garden Plain softball team learned the hard way why Wamego Raiders hurler Peyton Hardenburger is considered to be one of the best high school pitchers in the country in last Friday’s Class 4A State championship game.

Body TSnews A trio of gold medals plus two runner-up performances led the Clearwater Indians girls track and field team to its third straight top-3 finish at the Class 4A State meet. The Indians finished third with 51 points this year.

Body TSnews The Cheney Cardinals track and field teams had another good showing at the Class 3A State track and field meet, held last Friday and Saturday at Cessna Stadium. The girls placed seventh with 35 points, coming in 16 points behind champion Smoky Valley.

Body TSnews Both of the Conway Springs Cardinals’ State track and field qualifiers earned medals during their trip to the State meet in Wichita last week. Delaney Jones, a freshman, had a great State debut as she placed second in the Class 2A long jump.

Body TSnews For the first time since the 2018 season, neither Garden Plain track and field team was in contention for a State title. The Owls still performed well, and the future looks bright as a good group of freshmen made their State debuts.

Body TSnews Argonia high jumper Lakelyn Love earned her second high jump medal on Friday at the State track and field meet at Wichita State University. Love, a junior, tied for sixth place in Class 1A.

Body TSnews Two Eisenhower Tigers won gold medals at last week’s Class 5A State track and field meet, held in Wichita. Leah Wilkinson came into the State meet as a favorite in the shot put, and she delivered with the only performance of more than 40 feet.

Body TSnews Goddard High School’s Micah Johnson and Tyson Wallace each won three medals at the Class 5A State track and field meet last week at Wichita State. Johnson finished second in the 200 meters and fourth in the 100 meters.

Body TSnews Two Campus Colts earned four medals at last week’s State track and field meet at Wichita State University. BreAna Garrett-Tillemans, a senior who has been a regular State qualifier, won a trio of medals in the Class 6A competition.

Body TSnews SALINA – The Clearwater Indians and the Wamego Raiders engaged in a marathon of a softball game in their Class 4A State tournament opener last Thursday. The game went 17 innings before Wamego scored a run in the bottom of the 17th to take a 2-1 win over the Indians.
