Owls rally past Conway Springs at substate

TSnews The Garden Plain Owls girls basketball team held Conway Springs scoreless in the final period to rally for a 35-28 win over the Cardinals Monday night in the Class 2A substate opener at Conway Springs. Conway Springs led the Owls 28-23 going to the fourth quarter, but did not score a point in the final period as the Owls rallied for the win.

TSnews The Argonia Raiders girls basketball team used a strong second-half performance to pull away for a 39-23 win over Caldwell last Friday in the first round of Class 1A Division II substate play. The Raiders trailed 6-4 after the opening period, but rallied to take a 16-14 lead by halftime.

A double-digit lead was enough as the Cheney Cardinals girls basketball team beat the visiting Conway Springs Cardinals 64-48 on Feb. 20, in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Lady Colts see progress

TSnews The Campus Colts girls basketball team lost 55-18 to the visiting Salina Central Mustangs last Friday, putting the wraps on a winless season. The Colts, along with the Wichita West Pioneers, finish as the bottom two teams in Class 6A West and won’t advanced to substate this week.

Garden Plain’s Lee 2nd at State

TSnews Garden Plain wrestler Gage Lee capped a memorable season on the mats by finishing second in the State at the Class 3-2-1A State wrestling tournament last weekend in Salina. Lee (175 pounds) pinned his first two opponents at State to reach the semifinals, where he won a 15-2 major decision over Elijah Webb of Atchison County to earn a shot at the State title.

Colts end losing streak

TSnews The Campus Colts snapped a three-game losing streak with a big 81-63 home victory on senior night over the Salina Central Mustangs in their final contest of the regular season. Seniors Kaason Thomas, Andrell Burton, Jr., and Drake McPherson all came through with double-digit performances.
