Track athletes start season at Andale

The Garden Plain Owls, with the defending Class 2A girls State champions and the State runner-up boys, started the season at the Paul “Bear” Schmidt Invitational last Thursday at Andale. The meet allowed unlimited entries.

CPL names allleague players

With the conclusion of the high school basketball season, the Central Plains League has released its list of all-league players for the 2023-24 season. On the boys’ side, the top two awards went to a pair of teams that qualified for State tournaments.

Players earn AVCTL hoops honors

All-league players have been named for the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League 2023-24 basketball season. The Clearwater Indians girls earned two top honors, where Elizabeth Tjaden was named Division IV MVP and Madison Clevenger shared the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

Several Argonia Raiders basketball players have been named to the South Central Border League’s all-league team for the just-completed 2023-24 season. Maya Jones was named to the girls first team, while Tori Morrison was honorable mention.

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals hit three buzzer-beating shots during last Wednesday’s Class 3A boys State basketball game, but couldn’t get a needed fourth shot to fall in a 54-51 loss to the Southeast of Saline Trojans. The Cardinals got off to a slow start shooting, falling behind by 10 points, but got to within two possessions when senior Jackson Voth sank a 35-foot shot as the first quarter ended, closing the Cardinals’ deficit to 16-12.

TSnews Poor shooting plagued the Campus Colts boys basketball team in an 86-57 loss to the Wichita Heights Falcons in the first round of the Class 6A State tournament, played last Thursday at Koch Arena in Wichita. This was the Colts’ first trip to State since 2021, when they finished as the second-place team in 6A.

Conway Springs falls to Lyndon in 2A opener

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals boys basketball team fell short of winning a Class 2A State championship, but it does little to tarnish the team’s deepest postseason run in 12 years. “I’m happy our guys got to experience winning substate and going to a State tournament,” Conway Springs coach Paul Lange said.
