TSnews Nate Eck wrapped up a strong season on the mat for the Garden Plain Owls when he finished fifth at the Class 3-2-1A State wrestling tournament last Saturday at Fort Hays State University. Eck shook off a quarterfinal loss to Corbin Franklin of Rawlins County to win three of his final four matches, including a 6-0 decision over Karsen Garner of Flinthills in the fifth-place match.

Conway Springs girls win substate opener

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals girls basketball team had little trouble in its Class 2A substate opener against the Republic County Buffaloes last Thursday, rolling to a 45-13 win. The Cardinals sprinted out to an 11-3 lead after the opening period, then pitched a shutout in the second quarter to take a 24-3 lead to the locker room.

Cheney beats Council Grove

Argonia girls close in on State berth

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals boys basketball teams opened play in their Class 3A substate with a 64-47 win last Thursday over the Haven Wildcats. The Cardinals started slowly but got the offense going in the second quarter with a 21-11 run that gave them a 32-23 halftime lead.
