Local teams rack up CPL all-league honors

The Cheney Cardinals, Garden Plain Owls and Conway Springs Cardinals all earned their share of the top honors in the Central Plains League for the 2025-26 season. On the boys side, Cheney’s Quaid Thomas was named as the CPL Player of the Year after leading his team to an undefeated conference record for the second year in a row, while Logan Osner of Conway Springs was named as the CPL’s Defensive Player of the Year and Chaparral coach Corbin Hostetler was named as the league’s Coach of the Year.

Players picked for AVCTL honors

Three Campus girls and one Campus boy made the Division I all-league list. Emerleigh Cooper was named to the girls second team, while Norah Seeley and Addison Wood were honorable mention.

State champs end Raiders’ season in quarterfinals

TSnews WICHITA – The Argonia Raiders girls basketball team saw its season end against arguably the best team in Kansas last Wednesday in the Class 1A Division II State quarterfinals. The Raiders fell into an early hole and never could fully recover as they lost to the eventual State champion Linn Bulldogs 60-43 at Garvey Gymnasium.

Swathers cut down Cheney Cardinals

The Cheney Cardinals never got their offense going in a 35-21 Class 3A substate semifinal loss on March 4. The Cardinals led Hesston 6-2 after a very low-scoring first quarter, but managed just one more point in the half to fall behind 17-7 at halftime.

Tigers boys fall to Hays

The Eisenhower Tigers boys basketball team ended their season in the first round of substate play, losing at Hays 66-51. Hays came out of the gate fast in the first quarter, building up a 16-8 lead.

Lions lose to Carroll

The Goddard Lions girls basketball team concluded their season with a substate first-round loss, falling 53-30 at Bishop Carroll on March 4. The Lions finished their season with an 8-13 record.

Raiders finish one win shy of State

Not even a loss in the Class 1A Division II substate finals could take the shine off a memorable season for the Argonia Raiders boys basketball team. While the Raiders fell to the Deerfield Spartans 58-49 at Caldwell, this season will still go down as the best season the team has had in many years.

Derby girls down Campus Colts

The third meeting this season between the Derby Panthers and Campus Colts girls basketball teams followed roughly the same script as the previous matchups, with the highly-ranked Panthers shutting down the Colts’ offense en route to a big win.

Berean Academy ends CS Cardinals’ season

The Conway Springs Cardinals boys basketball team’s bid to upset the Berean Academy Warriors could not survive a rough third quarter in last Wednesday’s 55-43 loss in the Class 2A substate semifinals at Elbing.
