CPL names all-league football teams

Players from the Garden Plain Owls, Cheney Cardinals and Conway Springs Cardinals have been named to the Central Plains League's 2025 allleague teams. The two top offensive honors went to the Garden Plain Owls, who went 7-1 in the regular season and won the Class 2A District 5 championship.

Soccer players on all-league lists

Several soccer players in the TSnews coverage area have been named to the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League's all-league lists, following the 2025 boys season. Eisenhower senior forward Austin Martinez and junior defender Jackson McCoy were named to the Division II first team.

All-league selections are being released following the end of volleyball season, and local players are among those offered. Central Plains League Top honors went to local schools in the Central Plains League.

Clearwater softball standout starts student Bible study group

CLEARWATER – Trista Welty has made quite a name for herself on the softball diamond. The Clearwater senior has helped the Indians make it to State three years in a row, including two fourth-place finishes, and recently committed to play collegiately at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Mo.

Winter sports start next week

The winter sports season will get underway next week, with basketball, wrestling, and swimming and diving. Argonia High School starts basketball with a pair of home games, hosting Attica on Tuesday and Pretty Prairie on Friday.

Hoisington holds down Garden Plain run game

TSnews The Hoisington Cardinals relied on a stiff rushing defense to beat the Garden Plain Owls 36-7 in last Friday’s Class 2A football playoff game. The host Cardinals won the line of scrimmage, holding the Owls to just 76 rushing yards on 25 attempts.

Cheney’s playoff run stopped by undefeated Rock Creek

TSnews The Rock Creek Mustangs edged the visiting Cheney Cardinals 14-7 in last Friday’s Class 3A playoff game. The Cardinals had a chance to tie or win late in the game, but were kept out of the end zone, and ended their season with a 7-4 record that included two playoff victories.

Salina Central wins again, ends Goddard’s season

TSnews A pair of Goddard Lions’ turnovers helped the Salina Central Mustangs to a big second half and a 62-32 win over the Lions in Friday’s Class 5A football playoff game. The Lions also lost starting quarterback Brock Sullivan to injury and he missed most of the game.

Flores boots Cheney into next round of playoffs

TSnews Carsten Flores kicked a 22-yard field goal in overtime to give the Cheney Cardinals a 23-20 road win at the Holcomb Longhorns in last Friday’s Class 3A playoff football game. Flores played a big role in the Cardinals’ win, kicking three field goals.
