From April 1951 Conway Springs High School music department, under the direction of Loren Matthews, made a fine showing at the festival at Wichita University last Friday and Saturday, sponsored by the State High School Activities Association as a qualifying festival for the state meet to be held in Emporia. Those from here who qualified for the finals by taking I ratings are Sue Welch, sousaphone soloist; Glee Sanders and Beverly Shinn, clarinet soloists; and Chester Arterburn, saxophone soloist.

7 Years Ago New, energy-efficient windows highlight the work at Nelson and Freeman elementaries, two sites that are seeing more limited work as a result of Haysville USD 261's $59 million bond construction project. At Freeman, the new windows went in over the summer and students felt the benefit when the weather turned cold.

Yesteryears 70 Years Ago Fire Chief Ralph Cook reported last week that the Cheney Fire Department had a civilian defense meeting with Wichita Air Force Base fire personnel on March 16. 60 Years Ago Raymond Bolinger received injuries last Wednesday when a horse kicked him at his farm home south of Cheney.

KFB to recognize tradition, heritage of family farms

Kansas Farm Bureau is continuing in 2024 its recognition for Sesquicentennial Farms in conjunction with its annual Century Farm program. The Century Farm program honors Farm Bureau members who own farms of at least 80 acres within the same family for 100 years or more.
