Autopsy findings released in Lake Afton case

SEDGWICK COUNTY – Ian Shelton, the Wichita man whose body was recovered on Jan. 13, drowned, according to a report from the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center and released by the Sedgwick County Sheriff ’s Office.

Simmons earns pair of coaching honors

Cheney cross country and track coach Richie Simmons has had quite a bit of success in his 22 years of coaching – and now, he's earned some nice recognition for it. Simmons recently received a pair of coaching honors, not only being named the Class 3A Coach of the Year by the Kansas Cross Country and Track & Field Coaches Association, but also being named the Kansas Coaches Association Coach of the Year in girls cross country.

Energy assistance program now open

The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) has announced that applications are now being accepted for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP). The application period runs through 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

Clearwater educator sharpens skills through traveling

CLEARWATER – Debbie Lukert has gotten to do some serious traveling in recent years in her quest to be a better educator. Lukert, who teaches fifth grade at Clearwater Intermediate- Middle School, has visited several memorable places which are big parts of American history the last few years through the Summer Teacher Institutes.
