SEDGWICK COUNTY – Ian Shelton, the Wichita man whose body was recovered on Jan. 13, drowned, according to a report from the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center and released by the Sedgwick County Sheriff ’s Office.

KINGMAN COUNTY – A couple from Murdock died on Jan. 20 in a crash west of Cheney.

Students at Cedarville University have been named to the dean’s honor list for the fall 2025 semester. Honor list students include Jedidiah Marquardt and Naomi Marquardt of Garden Plain.

GODDARD – The Goddard City Council took another step toward a new comprehensive plan for the city at its Jan. 20 meeting by selecting a Kansas City firm to assist the city in creating the plan.

Cheney cross country and track coach Richie Simmons has had quite a bit of success in his 22 years of coaching – and now, he's earned some nice recognition for it. Simmons recently received a pair of coaching honors, not only being named the Class 3A Coach of the Year by the Kansas Cross Country and Track & Field Coaches Association, but also being named the Kansas Coaches Association Coach of the Year in girls cross country.

CHENEY – It didn't take long for members of the Cheney Chamber of Commerce to elect its officers and board of directors for 2026. The election took place during the Chamber's January meeting.

CLEARWATER – The first semester honor roll for the 202526 school year has been released by Clearwater High School. Students are listed on the all-A honor roll, honor roll or honorable mention.

The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) has announced that applications are now being accepted for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP). The application period runs through 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

CLEARWATER – Debbie Lukert has gotten to do some serious traveling in recent years in her quest to be a better educator. Lukert, who teaches fifth grade at Clearwater Intermediate- Middle School, has visited several memorable places which are big parts of American history the last few years through the Summer Teacher Institutes.
