CHENEY – A pair of Cheney Elementary student teams dominated the state of Kansas playing a stock market game this year. The team of Dominic Albers, Bryant Bergkamp, Trae McDaniel, and McKoy Young won the elementary division of the stock market game in Kansas, earning a (pretend) $17,568 in just three months.

Humanities Kansas releases free poetry and wildflower book

Humanities Kansas (HK) has announced the release of “Wild Words,” a booklet featuring poems and illustrations inspired by native Kansas wildflowers. The book is meant to engage readers across the Kansas landscape: from urban backyards to eastern wetlands, and from the arid shortgrass to lush tallgrass prairies. Extension Food preservation can be done in many ways, but food safety should be a priority in all. Kansas State University food scientist Karen Blakeslee said there are common steps to take, including peeling produce to ensure food safety.

Haysville Memories

The new Haysville activity center had its soft opening Monday morning. Located at 523 Sarah Lane, the new facility offers two full-size basketball courts; two classrooms; a conference room; an area for Summer Elements, the recreation department’s summer camp; and other amenities. Mayor Bruce Armstrong said the city is glad to have the new building open, and he is looking forward to seeing the center's future.

The Vacation Church School closed its two-week program with special services Sunday evening at 8 o’clock before a packed house in the Presbyterian church. Attendance was high in all the departments, which indicated that the children were very much interested in the school and were under the leadership of capable teachers.
