CHENEY – Drama and forensics students will be showcased at a special event next Tuesday at Cheney High School. Students will present the one-act play, “Dinner with the MacGuffins.” In addition, there will be numerous presentations by this year’s forensics State Championship qualifiers.

Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WEC) will host this year’s annual meeting on April 22 at the Great Bend Events Center, 3111 10th St., in Great Bend and in seven other remote locations across its service territory.

TSnews CHENEY – At last week's meeting, the Cheney City Council approved a major street reconstruction project covering a total of four blocks. Council members approved spending $279,840 to tear out and replace Second Avenue, from Main Street west to Filmore Street.

HAYSVILLE – Free sports physicals will be offered next Thursday at the School-Based Health Clinic (SCHC) in Haysville. Appointments are needed and can be made by calling 316-554-2317.

ARGONIA – The Argonia City Council approved spending $7,850 for the purchase and shipping of a new motor and pump for the municipal swimming pool. The purchase was made during Monday night's regular meeting.

GODDARD – The Goddard City Council approved an ordinance at its April 7 meeting establishing a revised set of bylaws for the Goddard Senior Center Citizens Advisory Board. They clarify that the city has administrative oversight of the senior center.

CLEARWATER – This Saturday is the annual citywide cleanup in Clearwater. All items to be collected need to be set at the curb prior to 7 a.m.

CHENEY – Linndy Frieden, the head coach of the Cheney Cardinals boys basketball team, is stepping away from coaching temporarily and will take off the 2026-27 season to focus on health. His resignation was on the USD 268 Board of Education meeting on Monday.

The National Museum of American History, Flag Hall, was the location for Thaddeus L. Ronnau to be promoted to the rank of Colonel in the United States Air Force.
