Veterans visit Clearwater elementary students

Seven local veterans visited the Clearwater Elementary West second grade class on Veterans Day, meeting with 58 students in the classes of Jenna Carr, Jayme Emery and Alicia Woodyard. Clint Moyer, who spent 35 years in education, was in the National Guard as civil affairs officer.

Veterans Day honors the millions of men and women who have sacrificed much to serve in the United States military. Veterans Day is commemorated each year on Nov. 11 because it was that day in 1918 when an armistice was reached between combatants in World War I, which estimates suggest claimed the lives of as many as 22 million people.

The roles of the various branches of the U.S. military

Each November, people across the United States and its territories honor the brave men and women who serve and have served in the various branches of the country’s military. Veterans Day is observed annually every November 11 and honors the service of all U.S. military veterans. The day should not be confused with Memorial Day, which is celebrated each year in May and honors all military personnel who have died in service.

Army National Guard brought Mark Bird to Sedgwick Co.

TSnews CLEARWATER – Mark Bird spent more than two decades in the Army National Guard, a career which took him to many different locations and opportunities. Bird spent most of his military career working as a combat engineer, which took him from Iowa to Michigan and Wisconsin before taking him to Sedgwick County.

Military service a family tradition for Shankles

TSnews CHENEY – Military service is a family tradition for John Shankles. Shankles, who is retired from the United States Air Force and also served in the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve in addition to a stint in the Army National Guard as support, is part of the third generation of his family to serve in the United States Armed Forces.
