CSHS girls continue late-season surge

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals girls basketball team continued its late-season stretch of solid play as the Cardinals downed Belle Plaine 56-40 last Friday on the road, their third win in a row and fifth in the last six games. The host Dragons led the Cardinals 27-24 at halftime, but Conway Springs (9-8) dominated the third quarter 22-5 to take a 46-32 lead to the final period.

TSnews On Heart-to-Heart night last Friday, the Cheney Cardinals boys basketball team gave their fans a sweetheart of a win by beating the Trinity Academy Knights 45-42 at home. The victory upped the Cardinals’ season record to 15-2, with 14 consecutive victories.

TSnews The Clearwater Indians girls wrestling team will be represented by a pair of wrestlers at State after each finished in the top four at last Saturday’s Class 4-3-21A regional at McPherson. Payton Newell (135 pounds) and Kiley Blake (170) both overcame semifinal losses to win their next two matches and finish third.

Three Owls win Central Plains League titles

TSnews The Garden Plain Owls had a trio of wrestlers come away as champions at last Thursday’s Central Plains League tournament at Chaparral High School in Harper County. As a team, the Owls finished third with 77 points, 13 ahead of fourth-place Douglass.

Cardinals win first-ever CPL title

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals wrestling team turned in perhaps its best performance of the season last Thursday as the Cardinals won the Central Plains League tournament championship for the first time in school history. The Cardinals won the tournament with 129 points, 20 ahead of runner-up and host Chaparral.
