Tennis teams send players to State

TSnews All four boys tennis teams in the TSnews coverage area are sending players to State tournaments, after regional qualifying tournaments that were held over the weekend. The best individual finish among the four schools went to Campus High School’s Jacob Bush, who won a regional singles championship at the May 5 event in Dodge City.

Peyton McCormick Cheney Cardinals This week’s TSnews Athlete of the Week is Cheney softball pitcher Peyton McCormick. She’s played a key role in helping the Cardinals to a top see in their 3A regional Last week, McCormick pitched a shutout against Conway Springs.

TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers won the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div. II championship on Monday at Andover’s Terradyne Golf Course.

Lions lose to Maize Eagles

TSnews The Goddard Lions girls soccer team hosted Maize on Tuesday, May 2. It was a 3-2 loss, but Lions head coach Josh Hansen was pleased with how his team played, and happy to have two key players, Lauryn Gordon and Emmy Hedden, back from injuries.

Tigers beat Arkansas City, lose at Andover

The Eisenhower Tigers girls soccer team went 1-1 last week, winning 9-0 at Arkansas City on May 2 before falling 3-0 at Andover on May 4. Maddie Bracy had four goals in the Arkansas City game.

Wins still elusive, Colts see positives

The Campus girls soccer team played three games last week. Wins were still elusive for the Colts, who now have a 1-10-3 season record, but head coach Casey Reece still saw positives, especially in the May 4 contest versus Valley Center, a 1-0 loss, and in the Monday matchup versus Derby, a 2-0 loss.

Panthers top Colts at Derby meet

TSnews The Derby Panthers and Campus Colts battled for the team title at last week’s Derby Invitational, held May 2 at Campus’ pool. Derby scored 446 points and won the meet, while Campus was second with 381 points.

GP boys, Cheney girls win Vernon Ferguson titles

TSnews Local girls track and field teams claimed the top three spots at last Friday’s Vernon Ferguson Invitational meet in Cheney. The host Cardinals scored 135.5 points, earning a victory over Clearwater (120) and Garden Plain (85).

Colts place third in big Maize meet

Clearwater’s Schwerdfeger qualifies for State TSnews The Campus Colts swimmers and divers came up big in the Maize meet, placing third in a field of 17 teams. They medaled in nine of 12 events.
