Owls drown out the Dragons in district opener

Bouncing back from the season's first loss, the Garden Plain Owls soared to a 46-7 victory at the winless Belle Plain Dragons last Friday. It was the first Class 2A District 5 games for both teams.

The Owls' Emrick Hays ran for 170 yards. Seven different players had positive yardage, as Garden Plain rushed for 375 yards. Braylen Dold picked up 90 yards, Jack Helten had 37, and Eli Eck ran for 34 more.

The Owls scored on all five of their first-half possessions.

Colts show improvement in close loss

TSnews The Campus Colts played their most competitive game of the season, losing 36-24 in Haysville to the Maize South Mavericks. The Colts fell to 0-4, while the Mavericks improved to 3-1.

Lions win at Newton to even record

TSnews The Goddard Lions improved their season record to 2-2 with last Friday’s 36-17 road win at the Newton Railers. Erik Olivas scored four touchdowns to the lead the Lions.

Rough second half dooms Tigers at home

TSnews The visiting Salina Central Mustangs took over the second half to defeat the Eisenhower Tigers 4920 last Friday at Goddard District Stadium. The Mustangs got off to a good start, forcing the Tigers into punts on their first two possessions.

Local teams compete at Lake Afton

TSnews The annual Goddard Invitational cross country meet took place last Thursday at Lake Afton. The Goddard boys had the best overall team results, placing fourth out of 12 teams with 104 points.

Titans get district win on homecoming night

TSnews The Argonia-Attica Titans beat the Norwich Eagles 30-6 last Friday in Argonia, getting a win on homecoming night and, more importantly, getting a victory in their first district game of the season. The Titans’ defense kept the Eagles grounded most of the game, keeping the Eagles scoreless until inside the game’s final five minutes.

Colts bounce back with two shutouts

TSnews The Campus Colts boys soccer team stacked two wins last week – 2-0 at Andover Central on Tuesday, Sept. 23, and 6-0 at home against Salina Central on Thursday – behind sharper defending and a clinical attack.
