TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals boys basketball team could not overcome a second-period slump as it fell to the Wichita Home-School Warriors 65-42 last Saturday in the third-place game at the Chaparral Roadrunner Classic. The Cardinals led 13-12 after the opening period, but Wichita HomeSchool used a 22-7 second-quarter surge to take control of the game and take a 34-20 lead to the locker room.

Argonia girls take third at SCBL tournament

TSnews For the first time in six years, the Argonia Raiders girls basketball team has cracked the top three at the South Central Border League Tournament. The Raiders wrapped up third place at the tournament last Saturday when Kara Jones drained the winning 3-pointer with three seconds left to lift Argonia to a 47-46 overtime win over Cedar Vale-Dexter at Cowley College in Arkansas City.

Haven hands Cheney season’s first defeat at Rupp tourney

TSnews The Haven Wildcats ended the Cheney Cardinals’ run as champions of the Adolph Rupp Invitational and as an undefeated team this season during Saturday’s 46-33 win over the Cardinals. It was a highly-anticipated matchup, as the Cardinals were ranked third in Class 3A and the Wildcats were ranked fifth.

Clearwater takes second at Ralph Miller Classic

TSnews The Clearwater Indians girls basketball team could not dig out of an early hole in a 57-29 loss to the Sunrise Christian Academy Buffaloes in the championship game of the Ralph Miller Classic last Saturday in Chanute. Despite the loss, Clearwater coach Casey Carlson was “very happy” that the Indians made it to the championship game.

Tigers boys struggle with shot-making

Struggles with shot-making led the Eisenhower Tigers to two losses last week: 48-41 versus Newton on Tuesday, and 41-31 at Salina Central on Friday. “This whole week, we struggled to make open shots that we should be knocking down,” head coach Steve Blue said.

Argonia girls win at Sedan

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals girls basketball team, after a week off, rolled past three different opponents last week with each win coming by more than 30 points. The Cardinals finished the week with a 61-28 home win over the Kingman Eagles last Friday.
