Raiders boys fall to Pretty Prairie

TSnews The Argonia Raiders boys basketball team had trouble making shots and hitting the boards in a 54-39 loss to Pretty Prairie last Friday that also spoiled Jake Callaway’s debut as Raiders’ head coach. Argonia (0-1) shot just 38 percent (15-for-40) from the field and collected just 18 rebounds on the night.

Cheney shakes off rust, Clearwater

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals boys basketball team showed little rust from many of its players just finishing a State championship run in football just six days prior last Friday. The Cardinals used a strong second quarter to take control of the game and defeat the Clearwater Indians 64-50 at Cheney High School.

Garden Plain wrestlers open strong at El Dorado

TSnews The Garden Plain Owls wrestling team opened the season in strong fashion last Saturday at the inaugural El Dorado tournament, with four wrestlers finishing in the top three and one winning a title. “I was very pleased with how we competed and placed at El Dorado,” Garden Plain coach Travis Daerr said.

Cards fall to Med Lodge

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals boys basketball team fought hard last Friday against a tough Medicine Lodge squad, but ultimately came up short and lost 52-44 to open the season. “We knew it would be tough to open with a victory on the road at Medicine Lodge,” Conway Springs coach Paul Lange said.

Owls win at Trinity

A strong defensive effort in the second half helped the Garden Plain Owls to a 48-37 win over the host Trinity Academy Knights boys basketball team last Friday, The Owls led by as many as 10 points in the second quarter, but gave up most of that lead and went into halftime with a 1-point edge, 28-27.

Colts give new coach win

The Campus Colts opened the season with a 71-61 home victory over the Andover Trojans, giving new head coach Zac Kliewer a win in his debut as the Colts’ new head coach. Kliewer, a longtime assistant coach at Campus, said he was excited to get the win.

Fast start helps Trinity beat GP girls

The host Trinity Academy Knights ran out to a 21-8 first-quarter lead over the Garden Plain girls basketball team last Friday. That set the stage for the Knights’ 62-34 win in the season opener for both teams.
