The Argonia Raiders girls basketball team gathered some needed momentum as it took two out of three games at the Border Queen Tournament and placed third in the annual classic hosted by Caldwell. The Raiders won 44-26 at Oxford last Tuesday, but fell to Norwich 47-28 last Friday at home.
The Goddard Lions girls wrestling team made the trip to Great Bend last weekend for the Christmas Clash and one wrestler came home with a topfour finish. Breann Bradley (170 pounds) won four matches by pin and ended up taking fourth at the event.
The Eisenhower Tigers boys and girls wrestling teams headed to Douglass last weekend to compete in the Douglass Goodwill Invitational, with the boys wrestling last Saturday and the girls taking to the mats the day before that.
The Campus Colts girls wrestling team turned in a solid performance at the Douglass Goodwill Invitational last Friday, finishing seventh at the 22-team event and placing four wrestlers in the top four.
The Garden Plain Owls wrestling team had four wrestlers end up in the top three and finished sixth as a team after a strong performance last Saturday at the Hesston Invitational. The Owls finished with 74 1/2 points, nine and a half points behind fifth-place Chaparral and a point ahead of Pratt.
The Cheney Cardinals boys and girls wrestling teams turned in a solid performance at the Hesston Invitational with five wrestlers – four boys and a girl – placing in the top four at the event. On the boys side, Cheney took eighth as a team with 72 points, one point behind Pratt and two behind sixth-place Garden Plain.
After struggling in their season opening tournament at Pratt to open December, the Clearwater Indians boys and girls wrestling teams bounced back with several strong performances last week at Wellington, Douglass and Chase County.
The Garden Plain Owls boys basketball team finished play in the Hesston tournament with a 48-36 win over the Nickerson Panthers on Friday in Hesston. The victory followed losses earlier last week at home to Rose Hill and at Hesston, giving the Owls a 1-2 record in the early-season round robin tournament.
The Conway Springs Cardinals girls basketball team got its first win of the season last Tuesday against the host Eagles in the opeming game of the Kingman Eagle Classic, but came up short against Great Bend 42-35 last Thursday, then fell to Haven 51-32 last Saturday in the third-place game at the Classic.
