The visiting Andover Central Jaguars beat the Campus Colts girls basketball team 66-13 last week on Tuesday in Haysville. The Colts struggled to generate much offense in falling to 0-2.

Cheney Cardinals Class 3A State Champions .

The Conway Springs Cardinals lost their season-opening game to the rival Garden Plain Owls. It was the Cardinals’ fifth straight loss to the Owls, and the second time in two years they lost their season opener to Garden Plain.

The Cardinals made an opening-week statement by putting up 34 unanswered points in a beatdown of the Eagles. The Eagles, the Class 2A State runners-up in 2022, jump-started last season with a two-touchdown win at Cheney, This year, the Cardinals left no doubt who was the better team in the rematch.

TSnews When the Conway Springs Cardinals lifted the Class 1A State football championship in the snow at Lewis Field at Fort Hays State University two Saturdays ago, it signified the latest chapter in a long story of success over the past 25 years. Head coach Matt Biehler has been there for all of it, as an assistant coach through the early years and as the head coach for the past two championships, this year and in 2011.

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals’ 35-6 victory over the Jefferson County North Chargers on Nov. 25 gave the Cardinals their eighth State football championship, and first at the Class 1A level.

Cheney’s quest for its first-ever State football championship looked to be in peril more than once. The Cardinals found themselves in precarious spots twice in the playoffs, and their season could have gone a lot differently if they had lost their regular- season game against Andale.
