Indians take down El Dorado

TSnews The Clearwater Indians wrestling team made it a clean sweep last Thursday night as the boys and girls squads both got wins over El Dorado. On the boys side, Clearwater won 48-26, while the girls won 33-28.

Tigers pick up medals

TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers wrestling team had several wrestlers – three girls and two boys – finish in the top three at last weekend’s Andover tournament. On the boys side, Abe Starnes (165 pounds) and Blayre Cline (175) both finished third, while Eli Tornquist (157) and Maddox Walker (165) both placed fifth.

Colts win Bill Brown Invitational

TSnews It was a weekend to remember for the Campus Colts wrestling team. The boys won the Bill Brown Invitational last Friday in Garden Plain with 177.5 points, 32 ahead of runner-up Andover Central, while the girls had two individual champions last Saturday at the Rocky Welton Invitational in Garden City.

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals made the trek east on Highway 54 last Friday to wrestle at the Bill Brown Invitational – and found some success at the longtime tournament. Colton Veach (165 pounds) took second as he lost to Garden Plain’s Carter Tatom in the finals, while Cayle Mruk (126) finished third, the duo of Kameron Totty (106) and Caeden Mruk (138) both placed fourth and Landen White (175) finished sixth at Garden Plain.

Owls’ Eck, Tatom take Bill Brown Invitational

TSnews Two Garden Plain wrestlers found home to be sweet indeed as they won titles at the Owls’ own Bill Brown Invitational last Friday. Nate Eck (106 pounds) and Carter Tatom (165) both won all of their matches by either fall or technical fall to win titles at the annual event.

Cardinals win Wildcat Classic in OT thriller

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals girls basketball team are the champions of the Mulvane Wildcat Classic after winning a memorable title game against host Mulvane 56-55 in overtime last Saturday. Trailing 55-54 in the closing seconds of overtime, Sadie Koester put back a missed shot as time expired to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and give Conway Springs the tournament title.

Campus Colts fall to Maize South boys

The Campus Colts lost 79-51 to the Maize South Mavericks boys basketball team on Jan. 27. It was the Colts’ only game last week The Mavericks - ranked No. 4 in Class 5A - took a big lead early, going up 25-12 after the first quarter. Maize South put up another 23 points in the third quarter, and led 61-39 heading into the fourth quarter.
