TSnews The Cheney Cardinals girls basketball team took care of business in its Class 3A substate opener, beating the visiting Chaparral Roadrunners 61-32 last Thursday. Holding a 29-21 halftime lead, the Cardinals romped through the third quarter, outscoring the Roadrunners 25-5.

Conway Springs wins substate opener

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals girls basketball team got the postseason off to a strong start when it won its Class 2A substate opener 43-34 at home over the Republic County Buffaloes last Friday. “It was exciting to get the opportunity to host the first round of substate, and then to go out and get the win made it even better,” Conway Springs coach Andrew Gower said.

TSnews The Garden Plain Owls wrestling team wrapped up one of its more memorable seasons as two Owls wrestled at last weekend’s Class 3-2-1A State tournament in Hays – and one of them made it to the medal stand. Nate Eck took fourth at 106 pounds to make it to the State medal stand, capping a memorable first season on the mat for the Garden Plain freshman.

TSnews The Campus Colts girls wrestling team concluded its best season yet when it had two wrestlers finish in the top five at the Class 6A State tournament last weekend in Overland Park. Leading the way was Brooklyn Burling, who took fourth at 235 pounds to record the best season ever by a Campus female wrestler.

McClellan makes it to quarterfinals for Cardinals

TSnews Cheney Cardinals wrestler Parker McClellan wrapped up his senior season with an appearance on the state’s biggest stage when he competed last weekend at the Class 4A State tournament in Salina. McClellan (150 pounds) won his first match at State when he downed Eudora’s Newt Schreiner by technical fall, but lost in sudden-victory overtime to Trace Metcalf in the quarterfinals.

Campus girls go to State as regional bowling champs

TSnews The Campus Colts girls bowling team entered the season back in January as a favorite to win another State title, and they remain a favorite following last week’s Class 6A regional championship. The Colts bowled 3360 and finished as the best of 12 teams.
