Optimism spreads as wheat harvest begins

Staff report TSnews Combines began rolling in southern Kansas late last week, as farmers began test cutting or started to harvest their wheat crops. According to Kansas Wheat, harvest started earlier than normal because wheat matured early and farmers have tried to beat storms.
Harvest is a family affair. After a day of cutting, Dan Buerki gets a hug from his granddaughters, Jada, Julia and Jenna. The field is located near west Wichita.

Kraft Rodeo provided the stock in their first rodeo of the season. They will end the season this fall with the annual Bronc Kraft Memorial Rodeo, which started in Argonia and now takes place in Conway Springs.

LEFT: The fourth annual Garden Plain Vintage Market drew a good crowd and was blessed by great weather on Saturday. The event draws in a wide variety of vendors and food trucks, and local businesses have an opportunity to showcase themselves. A highlight of this year’s market was singer Blane Edwards and his band. He took to the stage on Main Street at noon.

CS Council discusses park improvements

TSnews CONWAY SPRINGS – Several ideas for improvements within Central Park were discussed last week by the Conway Springs City Council. Those discussions included ideas for the park's iconic band shell, the Scout Hut, the historic spring house, and a new park bench.

Library receives grant for accessibility

TSnews HAYSVILLE – The Haysville Community Library has received a $3,333 grant, along with some addition funds, to improve accessibility and inclusivity. The grant comes from Libraries Transforming Communities, an effort from the American Library Association that helps libraries bolster their roles as community leaders.
