Indians tripped by Roadrunners in close contest

TSnews The Clearwater Indians fought hard in last Friday’s homecoming football game, but lost 10-7 after the Chaparral Roadrunners put together a comeback in the second half. Talen Tjaden gave the Indians what turned out to be their lone touchdown of the game, running off to the right side for a 25-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

TSnews Cross country runners from the Cheney Cardinals, Clearwater Indians and Goddard Lions took part in last Thursday’s Halstead Invitational. Cheney had good team finishes, as the girls came in second with 56 points, finishing 27 points behind Southeast of Saline, and 44 points ahead of the Classical School.

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals volleyball team turned in perhaps its best performance of the season when it won the Kingman tournament last Saturday. The Cardinals went 4-1 at the tournament, overcoming a 20-25, 21-25 loss to Pratt to down the host Eagles 25-23, 2517, Pretty Prairie 25-18, 25-12, Wichita Collegiate 25-14, 26-24 and Bluestem 27-25, 25-22.

Big quarter helps Lions to homecoming win

TSnews A 22-point second quarter helped the Goddard Lions to a 31-23 football win on homecoming last Friday, as the Lions withstood a comeback effort by the Andover Central Jaguars. “We’ve had a good stretch of luck against them,” said Lions head coach Tommy Beason.

GP ends Haven’s win streak in big district win

TSnews With a late-game touchdown, a 2-point conversion and a defensive stand, the Garden Plain Owls’ football team beat the visiting Haven Wildcats 15-14 last Friday. The Wildcats were undefeated, and these two teams are expected to be the top two teams in Class 2A District 5.

Owls drown out the Dragons in district opener

Bouncing back from the season's first loss, the Garden Plain Owls soared to a 46-7 victory at the winless Belle Plain Dragons last Friday. It was the first Class 2A District 5 games for both teams.

The Owls' Emrick Hays ran for 170 yards. Seven different players had positive yardage, as Garden Plain rushed for 375 yards. Braylen Dold picked up 90 yards, Jack Helten had 37, and Eli Eck ran for 34 more.

The Owls scored on all five of their first-half possessions.

Colts show improvement in close loss

TSnews The Campus Colts played their most competitive game of the season, losing 36-24 in Haysville to the Maize South Mavericks. The Colts fell to 0-4, while the Mavericks improved to 3-1.

Lions win at Newton to even record

TSnews The Goddard Lions improved their season record to 2-2 with last Friday’s 36-17 road win at the Newton Railers. Erik Olivas scored four touchdowns to the lead the Lions.
