Cheney Cardinals win CPL track titles

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals boys and girls track teams recorded a clean sweep at last Thursday’s Central Plains League track meet at Belle Plaine as they won the team titles in both divisions. On the girls side, Cheney won with 160 points, nine ahead of runner-up Garden Plain, while the boys won with 131 points, 21 ahead of Garden Plain.

Tigers’ King takes 5th in singles TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals boys tennis team finished second as a team at the Class 3-1A State Tournament, held May 16 and 17 in Topeka. It was the team’s first State trophy since 2014, when the Cardinals won a State championship.

TSnews The Cheney Cardinals turned in a strong performance at Monday’s Class 3A regional boys golf tournament at Kingman to take home a regional title and punch their tickets to State. The Cardinals shot 347, 11 strokes ahead of runner-up Hoisington and 12 ahead of third-place Garden Plain to take the regional title.

CSHS wins at Chaparral, Argonia fourth

The Conway Springs Cardinals girls track and field team won its first team title this season, flying over the rest of the competition in the seven- team field at Chaparral High School. The Cardinals scored 191 points, a full 100 points over runner-up Chaparral.

Swimmers take part in Maize meet

Swimmers and divers from the Campus Colts and from the Eisenhower and Goddard Tigers took part in last week’s Maize Invitational, held over two days last Friday and Saturday. It was one of the largest meets of the season, with 26 teams.

The Clearwater Indians softball team will take some momentum into Class 4A regional play after sweeping a pair of contests at Wichita Trinity last Thursday, taking the opener 5-3 and the nightcap 4-2. But more than that, last Thursday was a record-setting day.

Cheney girls victorious at Hesston

The Cheney Cardinals performed well in their final regular-season meet before this week’s Central Plains League meet, with the girls winning at Hesston and the boys finishing third. The girls did particularly well in the field events, placing two athletes in the top eight of every event, and three in the javelin where Raegen Black, Trinity Griffin and Chloe Scheer finished second, third and fourth.
