Cardinals, Tigers players qualify for State tennis

Boys players from Conway Springs and Eisenhower high schools qualified for State tennis tournaments over the weekend, while Campus and Goddard saw their seasons come to a close. The Conway Springs Cardinals won their league tournament on May 5, then hosted their regional.

GP girls win, boys 2nd at Remington

The Garden Plain girls claimed the team title at last Friday’s Larry Brown Invitational, hosted by Remington High School in Whitewater. The top three teams were far ahead of the rest of the field.

Cheney wins Marion County tourneys

The Cheney Cardinals are the champions of the 36-hole Invitational, winning both the Hillsboro and Marion legs of last Friday’s tournament. Sydney Schrant was the individual winner of the 18-hole leg in Hillsboro, shooting a round of 71 for a 3-stroke victory that helped the Cardinals win by 6 strokes.

Soccer teams look toward regionals

The postseason looms for local soccer teams, with regional seedings to be announced this weekend. Going into this week, the Eisenhower Tigers still sat atop the Class 5A West Regional standings, with a 14-0-0 record.

The Eisenhower Tigers placed fourth at the Bishop Carroll tournament, played April 29 at Tallgrass Country Club. The Tigers were in the mix for runner-up, finishing three strokes behind second-place Bishop Carroll and one stroke behind Spring Hill.

Swimmers take part in season’s biggest meet

The Campus Colts and Eisenhower and Goddard Tigers took part in the Maize invitational last week, a two-day meet on Friday and Saturday that featured 26 teams. The Colts fought to get into the top 10, finishing 10th with 105 points.

Salina Central TSnews The Goddard Lions girls soccer team packed in three games last week, beating Salina Central on Monday before falling to Maize and Andover Central. The score on Monday, April 28, at Salina Central was 3-1.

GHS boys second at Ark City track

TSnews The Goddard Lions boys track and field team was one of just two teams to score more than 100 points, as the Lions placed second at the Arkansas City invitational meet. The Lions scored 132 points, finishing 17 points behind Derby.

Cardinals, Raiders meet up at Wellington

TSnews The Conway Springs Cardinals and Argonia Raiders went to Wellington for a mid-season participation meet, which means team scores were not kept. For the Raiders, who have had small teams in recent years, this was one of their best meets in recent history.

Tigers, Colts take part in Salthawk meet

TSnews The Eisenhower Tigers and Campus Colts competed in last Friday’s Salthawk Invitational, hosted by Hutchinson High School. The Eisenhower boys had the best team finish, placing fourth out of 13 teams with 76 points.
